A bro-love “Ghost” meets “The Sixth Sense”
By Shelli Sonstein - Clear Channel
This film is so sappy, I’m surprised it wasn’t churned out by weeper-king Nicholas Sparks, whose best creation was “The Notebook”, followed by a stream of disappointing imitators.
Zac Efron is a star sailor about to enter college when a tragic car accident leaves his best-bud-younger brother dead . Zac’s Charlie was about to be pronounced dead as well til paramedic Ray Liotta brings him back to life . Charlie’s life died with his younger brother- he’s so shattered, he drops out of life , working in the cemetery where bro sam is buried. In fact, they commune each evening. It’s all Charlie lives for.
Kim Basinger makes a brief appearance as their hard-working mom. Newcomer Charlie Tahan as the kid brother is adorable and charming. Nothing wrong with Efron - he was just done is by a Hallmarky script.
The scenery is gorgeous. And so are the stars. They all deserve better than this schmaltz.
